How will my support impact the Burke Museum?
The Burke Museum Association is a 501(c)3 nonprofit (EIN: 91-2151686) that supports the museum by raising funds for programming and growth, strengthening ties to our diverse communities and fostering recognition of the Burke as a museum leader. All proceeds from our annual Burke in Bloom fundraiser go to support general operating expenses of the Burke Museum which include education programs, field trips, collections care and management, public programs for kids and adults, special exhibits, Tribal consultation, and more.
Can I pay for my tickets or sponsorship with a donor-advised fund (DAF)?
DAF gifts cannot be used to pay for any portion of event tickets, raffle tickets, auction purchases, or table sponsorships.
A DAF is a separately managed fund that is maintained and operated by a sponsoring organization, such as the Seattle Foundation, Fidelity, or Schwab. A DAF distribution is subject to IRS charitable contribution restrictions. Since the initial contribution to the DAF is eligible for tax deduction, the donor cannot receive any goods or services from the Burke Museum Association in exchange for their donation.
Can I direct a matching gift through another entity?
Event tickets, raffle tickets, auction purchases, and table sponsorships are not eligible for directed gifts or employer matches because they contain benefits that are not tax deductible. You may request a match for a fully tax-deductible donation. Donors who give or request a matching gift through a private foundation, donor-advised fund, United Way, Benevity and other similar organizations cannot receive any goods or services from the Burke Museum Association.
