Fossil Wonders and Prehistoric Treasures: The Burke Paleontology Collections!

Our collections team will lead a personalized tour of the paleontology collections as you take a journey through time. You’ll learn all about Seattle’s resident mammoths and try your hand at Cretaceous fossil sorting. Maybe you'll find a tooth or a scale! Take a step to the botanical side with mummified 16-million-year-old leaves and dinosaur salads. Stop by the fossil prep lab to check out the newest fossils and try out some of the techniques for coaxing dinosaur bones into the 21st century. Be ready to get your hands dirty during this interactive afternoon of fossil discovery!

Coast Salish Weaving: The Making of a Burke Special Exhibit

Join Burke Curator of Northwest Native Art Katie Bunn-Marcuse, Associate Director of the Bill Holm Center Bridget Johnson, and a co-curator from the Coast Salish Wool Weaving Center for a guided tour of the Burke’s upcoming exhibit about Coast Salish wool weaving, and an insider’s look into how the Burke’s first big homegrown exhibit in the new building was created. Opening in September 2025, the exhibit will feature historical Salish regalia and new creations by contemporary weavers, as well as weaving tools and materials. Learn about Coast Salish weaving and enjoy a beverage and appetizers at the Burke with up to eight of your friends.

Music to Your Ears: Passes to Seattle's World-Renowned Music and Arts Festivals 

Bumbershoot is THE annual, international music and arts festival held in Seattle. One of North America's largest such festivals, it takes place every Labor Day weekend at the 74-acre Seattle Center. Bumbershoot recognizes the diversity of the region’s creative community and honors the artists that call the Pacific Northwest home. Timber! is an Indigenous-owned music festival that takes place in a densely forested 574-acre park situated at the confluence of two rivers.

Fossil Finds at Stonerose Interpretive Center

Spend the day fossil hunting with Paleobotany Collections and Lab Manager Paige Wilson Deibel and friend of the Burke Elllen Ferguson at Stonerose Interpretive Center in Republic, Wash., and explore geologic points of interest along the way. This iconic fossil site is known for amazing plant fossils. Visitors often find intricate fossil leaves and seeds, and sometimes even perfectly preserved flowers and insects! Includes three picnic lunches and a guided tour of the Stonerose fossil site and interpretive center.

Yellow Island Preserve: A San Juan Gem!

Join the Herbarium team for a once in a lifetime opportunity to tour Yellow Island Preserve in the San Juans and take in the dramatic and bountiful wildflowers, eagles and, perhaps, even some seals and Harlequin ducks. You and three guests will fly to Friday Harbor via Kenmore Air, head to Yellow Island by boat to explore the island and then return to Friday Harbor for lunch before flying back to Seattle in the evening.
