You and up to five friends will join Polly Olsen, Tribal Liaison, on an eye-opening, one-day excursion along the I-90 corridor, taking in the picturesque landscape while immersing yourself in the rich tapestry of the area's natural history and culture. Explore gems such as the Cle Elem Fish Hatchery, the Wanapum Heritage Cultural Center, and the Ginkgo petrified forest, and see how collaborative efforts between science and tribes foster a deeper understanding of our shared heritage. Lunch, snacks, and beverages will be provided.

Journey Through Time in the Paleontology Collections

Go behind the scenes to explore our paleontology collections! Our collections team will lead a personalized tour of our fossil wonders and prehistoric treasures. You’ll see evidence of tropical beaches in Western Washington and beachfront property in Eastern Washington. Learn more about Seattle’s resident mammoths and try your hand at Cretaceous fossil sorting. Maybe you'll find a tooth or a scale! Take a step to the botanical side with mummified 16 million-year-old leaves and dinosaur salads. Stop by the prep lab to check out the newest fossils and try out some of the techniques for coaxing dinosaur bones into the 21st century. Be ready to get your hands dirty in this interactive afternoon of fossil discovery!

Did you know that the Burke houses one of the most important collections of fossils from Antarctica?  Spend an afternoon with Christian Sidor, Curator of Paleontology, to hear what it's like to collect fossils from the icy continent and have the rare chance to see fossils unearthed from within the polar circle from the beginning of the age of dinosaurs.
